Tip of the Day: To help prevent falls put no-slip lining under rugs to keep them from bunching and moving around.

Tip of the Day: Clean out dirty and dusty air vents to help prevent colds and respiratory problems.

Tip of the Day: Ask your child's school if they have carbon monoxide detectors and how often they are checked or replaced.

Tip of the Day: Consider painting the edges of outdoor steps a vibrant, easy to see color for the elderly or visually impaired loved ones in your life.
Thursday, January 27th, 2011:
Tip of the Day: To help prevent tipping off burglars, if you plan to be away from home for an extended period of time, set your phone ringer to the lowest volume.
Wednesday, January 26th, 2011:
Tip of the Day: Never leave notes on your door for service people or visitors when you are not home. It’s a signal to burglars that the home is empty.
Tuesday, January 25th, 2011:
Tip of the Day: If you are a renter make sure to talk to your landlord about installing proper locks, lighting and maintaining the landscape.

Tip of the Day: Memorize your state's phone number for road conditions. If there is an emergency you may need to call to find evacuation instructions.

Tip of the Day: Keep the water in spas and hot tubs at 104 degrees or below to help prevent unconsciousness and hyperthermia.

Tip of the Day: If you’re hitting the slopes remember to always wear a helmet and keep a small snack in your jacket in case you get trapped on a lift or lost.

Tip of the Day: To prevent being trapped or severely injured, do not walk or crawl under a partially open garage door.

Tip of the Day: Do not use indoor extension cords outdoors. A safe outdoor cord will read “Suitable for Use with Outdoor Appliances.”

Tip of the Day: Ice thickness is never consistent on lakes and ponds. Be especially careful of thin ice around narrow spots, bridges, inlets and outlets.

Tip of the Day: If you or someone you are with is suffering from frostbite do not use a heat lamp, stove, fireplace or radiator for warming because numb frostbite areas can be easily burned.

Tip of the Day: If your power goes out, a full freezer can hold food safely for up to 48 hours.

Tip of the Day: It is recommended to have interconnected smoke alarms. These alarms are linked together; if one alarm is triggered they all go off.

Tip of the Day: Especially with older windows, it can be difficult to get windows closed properly. Double check that they are closed by looking for gaps around the edges.

Tip of the Day: Before heading out on a frozen pond or lake, remember the old saying “Thick and blue, tried and true. Thin and crispy, way too risky.”

Tip of the Day: The first signs of frostbite are redness or pain on the skin. White or grayish-yellow skin, numbness and skin that feels firm or waxy may also be signs.

Tip of the Day: Don’t forget your SPF. You can still get sunburn in the winter, especially when the sun reflects off the snow.

Tip of the Day: Cast iron radiators can get very hot when the thermostat is raised. Consider investing in a radiator cover to prevent children and pets from potential burns.

Tip of the Day: When using a snowblower, never put your hands into the discharge chute to remove clogged snow and ice.

Tip of the Day: Burn only seasoned hardwood like oak, ash or maple. Do not burn trash, cardboard boxes or Christmas trees. These items burn unevenly and may contain poisons.
