Think Like A Burglar To Protect Your Holiday Gifts

You know the old saying, “if you can’t beat them, join them.” Well, we are definitely not suggesting you become a burglar, but it is helpful to think like one when it comes to your home security. So slip on a ski mask and get into the mindset of a burglar.

When thieves scope out a potential neighborhood there are a few things that will turn them off immediately. Neighborhood watch signs are usually a big deterrent, as well as security systems signs. They also tend to avoid well-lit homes and loud barking dogs.

Once they pick a neighborhood and home, it’s time to find an entry point. Front doors are often left unlocked or have flimsy locks that can be busted off with a simple crank of a crowbar. Other entry points burglars like are open garages, (man, your kid has a nice bike!) or open windows.

After the holidays burglars have prime pickings when homes are stuffed full of new gifts. Holiday trash can be a great place for a burglar to get an idea of what is in your home without having to face the danger of going inside.

Finally, don’t think they only go for big electronics and cash. Anything a burglar can quickly sell at a pawn shop or yard sale is a target.
