Security Alarm System Helps Thwart Burglars at Home

 When the home of ADT customers Trenton and Kathleen Morgan was flooded during Hurricane Katrina, they moved their family to a nearby rental property in New Orleans. Knowing that the area was vulnerable to crime, the family quickly transferred their home security account to their new residence. They are thankful they did.

“We left for vacation one morning and, roughly three hours later, two burglars kicked down our back door,” says Kathleen. The men headed straight to the alarm panel, ripped it off the wall, and dismantled the siren. After helping themselves to cold drinks from the refrigerator, the burglars began stealing items from the home.

Despite the burglars’ attempts to defeat the ADT alarm system, halfway across the country at the Customer Monitoring Center (CMC), Outbound Rep Kellee Fair had already summoned the police. Within five minutes, an officer arrived and caught the thieves putting the Morgans’ television into a stolen Lexus. One of the men managed to get away on foot, but the police apprehended the other man.

“If ADT hadn’t contacted the police so quickly, the perpetrators would have gotten away with our property,” says Kathleen. “I’m so grateful to ADT for protecting our home while we were away.”

Assistance didn’t end there. The system had to be temporarily disarmed for the necessary home repairs to take place. Since the keypad was torn off the wall, the Morgans weren’t able to disarm their system in the usual manner. A Customer Support Rep talked Kathleen through alternative steps to temporarily disable the system, making it possible for their landlord to install a new back door.

Next, Service Technician Ronnie Riolo arrived to repair and reinstall the family’s panel and siren. “It feels good to be part of an alarm incident where the burglar was caught,” says Riolo. “I’m glad I could help ensure this family’s home is protected again.”

As for Kathleen, she has arranged for a new, wireless alarm system to be installed in their previously flooded home. “Having the ADT security system makes our family feel safer,” she says.
