Is your family prepared for a long-term emergency?
By Home Security Source Jan 12 , 2010 | 12:15:00 pmPosted in: DIY Safety, Family, Home What if a snowstorm hit your city this winter and left you and your family trapped in your home with no ability to get to a grocery store or pharmacy for up to two weeks? The same could happen this spring due to a tornado or later in the summer following a hurricane.
The respected magazine Consumer Reports recently conducted a survey of more than 1,000 Americans to see if they and their families were prepared to survive that type of event. An amazing 82 percent said they would be fine – they have a fully stocked home emergency kit ready for such a crisis. But when the magazine asked if the kit included the 16 items the editors deemed necessary, only one percent could say yes. The average respondent had fewer than 10 of the 16 items – earning a grade of D- from the magazine.
The survey found renters were the least prepared, followed by young adults 29 and younger.
