Home Security Tips to Improve Your Urban Dwelling Experience
By Frank Santamorena October 9, 2012 | 10:00 AMPosted in: Burglary & Loss Prevention, Home Alarm Systems Millions of folks love living in busy urban
neighborhoods. The social life offers the proximity to theatre, sports venues,
cultural entertainment, mass transit, and a general feeling of being part of
busy lifestyle. Unfortunately, there is a dark side to urban life. Often there
are high crime rates. As the cost of
living continues to escalate, we are faced with a struggling economy that
fosters crime (particularly in these areas).
Protecting your home and family from home
invasion and burglary should remain on your forefront, since it can be
affordable. First home security tip, begin by assessing your home’s weakest
security points, the doors and windows. And if you do not have a Home
Alarm System, strongly consider getting one. Installing
a home alarm system is an affordable option that provides a high level of
security. Home alarm systems should be considered a necessary home security
device in any urban setting. However simply having an alarm isn’t enough. Many people become complacent and will forget
to set their alarm when rushed, or when they feel the risk of break-in does not
equal the hassle in setting the alarm. Unfortunately, thieves can break into a
home in a matter of minutes and be in possession of your expensive personal
belongings. Not to mention the risk of
your families wellbeing.
Sometimes the simplest home security tips
can be your best defense. Having an alarm sign properly displayed serves as an
initial deterrent for thieves. An alarm system should always be connected to a
U.L. Listed Central Monitoring Station so if the alarm is initiated, the
central station dispatcher can alert law enforcement when the alarm is triggered.
Install a secondary means of communication to the Central Monitoring Station.
There are burglars out there who will try and circumvent the standard phone
lines connected to that monitoring station. Also, for your personal
safety, make certain that the Central Processing
Unit (CPU-alarm system’s central panel) is located “out of sight” and that it
remains in a locked steel panel as to prevent anyone from tampering with the
system.
These simple security tips may seem like a
no-brainer, but time and again people become complacent in their home’s
security. Forgetting to take care of the basics before going out or going to
bed provides an opportunity for thieves to gain easy access. Taking the extra
time to make sure your urban dwelling is secure is the easiest way to stop
burglars in their tracks.
