Home Security Tech Trends
By Home Security Source Jul 2, 2009 | 11:20:00 amPosted in: Home Home security technology is evolving rapidly as consumers constantly demand better defenses against criminals targeting their homes. Most of the home security technology available today and in the near future focuses on two main goals: making your home safer and giving homeowners peace of mind. We would like to share some of the latest advances in home security technology that are fulfilling both of these goals.
Home Security on the go
Have you ever gotten that feeling when you’re halfway to the airport that you have forgotten to set your alarm or turn off some lights? Well, there are a few companies looking to ease your worries if you said yes. Alarm.com and iControl have both introduced mobile solutions for managing your home alarm system.
Alarm.com released an iPhone app that lets users of compatible systems manage their entire home security system, from arming and disarming the system, to watching live and recorded video feeds.
iControl also has a robust iPhone client that allows users to not only control their home alarm system, but also lighting, thermostat, and locks if your system supports it. iControl also recently announced a partnership with ADT to bring their unique remote system control to more homes.
Mobile innovations like this are changing the way that we think about what’s possible in home security. Expect to see a lot of developments in this space, with solutions supporting a broader range of systems and configurations.
Smart homes might be a smart bet
Home automation is getting more and more popular, with uses ranging from controlling different parts of your house via remote control, to a rock solid home security solution. Most home automation solutions function through the use of wireless devices, attached to various controllable parts of your house (ex: TV, lights, blinds, locks, thermostat). In addition to controlling these various parts of your home, a home automation system can monitor different activities around the home, such as when certain doors open.
Home automation is a great way to control a lot of different functions in home security from one place. Controlling all of these things in one unified system significantly increases the ease of use and potential effectiveness of this system.
Go Wireless
In the past, in order to implement a home security system in your house, it was an expensive affair, with the buyer having to run new wires throughout their home in order for it to function. Now, your sensors can communicate with the system without the use of wires through a wireless home security system. This allows for a more hassle-free installation, along with more flexible placement of sensors.
