Home Security Begins Before Intruders Enter

Home security systems are the most effective way in detecting if an intruder has entered your home.  But please remember, a home alarm system does not usually work until after someone has broken in! A large percentage of residential break-ins occur through doors.  Some experts believe that 85% of break-ins of thieves enter this way. So it only makes sense that if you want to stop an intruder, effective door security is essential. Security does not need to cost a fortune. It just needs to work!

There are simply too many easy targets for a thief to risk getting caught trying to get into a well secured home - unless you have something of extreme value that they really want. Statistics show that if you make the thieves' job difficult enough, they will go somewhere else. That is your objective and you do not need to spend a fortune to be successful. So if most break-ins happen through doors, then it only makes sense to protect those doors as best as possible.

A simple and effective way is to “shore- up” or to “reinforce” the door jamb.  Think of the doorway more as an “opening” having several essential components; the door jamb (the outer section the door actually fits into- the door- the door hinges- the door hardware (lock, handle, keys, face plate, latching mechanism)-and other minor elements.

Burglar proof your doors with door jamb armor.

Take a moment to look at your door plate that the locking/latching mechanism latches into (the locking part on your door knob or handle going into the face plate on the door jamb). The outside piece-the door jamb-that the latching mechanism goes into is only about ¼ inch thick.  This is the most vulnerable spot on the door and is the part that generally gives way when a burglar kicks the door.  A simple and effective solution is to put a plate alongside of that door jamb so the jamb is “shored- up” and “reinforced” with metal to virtually eliminate a burglar from kicking the door in.

There are several good products on the market today that can be installed with anyone who owns a cordless drill.  The door jamb armor installation takes less than 10 minutes, and since it is on the inside of the door jamb, the only time it is recognizable is when the door is opened.

So keep the “bad guy” from “coming in’ through the door in the first place. And stop them at the point in which they try to start.  Right at the door!
