We can’t remind everyone enough that there are some simple things that you can do to protect your family, home and belongings. By simply locking your doors and windows you make your home less of a target. Most burglars look for opportunity and an easy mark.
Tempe, Ariz. has experienced an uptick in home burglaries since the beginning of the year. Police say the burglars are getting into homes with little effort. Of the 60 recent home burglaries nearly half showed no sign of forced entry. The burglars took advantage of people leaving doors unlocked or windows open, making off with mostly cash and electronics.
The same advice goes for keeping your car and its contents safe. Make sure that you lock all doors and keep belongs like handbags, laptops and other electronics out of sight. Some thieves simply go around trying car door handles and help themselves when they find an unlocked vehicle.
Tempe police also remind people to record serial numbers for computers, television and other electronics and keep them in a central place. They say with today’s technology they can sometimes use data bases to track down serial numbers and return stolen property to its owner.
Make locking your home a habit when you leave and when you are at home. It is a simple thing that does work. Of course, you can add even more protection for your family and home by installing a security system. Statistics show that many criminals will avoid homes with an alarm system.
