Man’s Best Friend: Dependable, but Not as Reliable as Monitored Carbon Monoxide Alarms*

A Breckenridge, Colo. family is lucky to be alive today thanks to the life-saving feat of their alert family dog.

Last Saturday, around 4 a.m. as deadly gas fumes from the family’s stove filled their home while they slept, their four-legged family member sensed danger in the air and awoke the family; everyone escaped unharmed.

Local police said the family was lucky to have their brave pet, but noted that things could have turned out much worse that morning. While in this case this family’s dog was a life-saver, there are more effective ways to keep your family safe from the deadly gases that can be released by your home’s appliances.

Working home smoke alarms and monitored carbon monoxide alarms can mean the difference between life and death.
