Burglar Alert: Coral Gables Burglars Posing as Landscape or Exterminators – by Robert Siciliano

“Hey everyone I’m Robert Siciliano, your personal security and identity theft expert, here to talk about contractor scams. Police in southern Florida are warning residents to beware of burglars who are posing as landscape workers or exterminators.

Police say recently the criminals approach residents who are home to explain that they’ll be carrying out work in a neighbor’s yard, so they might say they’re cutting trees or getting rid of rodents. Then while distracted, someone – the burglars goes through their house taking their valuables. In one incident, police say that more than $200k dollars in watches, coins, and jewelry were stolen. You would think they’d have a home alarm or safe.

Authorities believe the con-artists are nomadic, traveling from northern states this time of the year, for south Florida’s climate.

Now, many of the imposter burglars have fake photo identification – you know fake IDs, uniforms, and make-shift company vehicles. You know they play the part.

Bottom line; do not open the door to strangers. And be sure to instruct your household help of the same. I tell that to my butler all the time.
And if your suspicious of the person at the door, call 911, immediately.
I am Robert Siciliano, stay safe out there.”
