Burglaries Heat Up this Summer
By Home Security Source 8/12/2010 | 12:08:31 pmPosted in: Burglary & Loss Prevention Police departments across the U.S. have been reporting a rise in burglaries this summer. But, police say, the increase is expected, as residents are more likely to keep windows and doors open to let refreshing summer air circulate.
Police are reminding everyone that locking doors and windows is the first line of defense against burglars and the easiest way to deter petty theft. Many summertime burglaries are known as “crimes of convenience”, crimes that are committed because a low risk opportunity presents itself. In fact, more than 30 percent of the time burglars entered without having to force a door or window open.
At nighttime use fans and air conditioning units to create a breeze and keep all doors and windows safely locked. For added protection always keep your home security alarm activated.
