5 Tips for a Safe Holiday Party
By Home Security Source Dec 14, 2010 | 9:15:00 amPosted in: Fire Prevention, Home One of the best parts of the holiday season is the holiday parties. It’s a time to get together with loved ones, make memories and be merry. If you are planning on throwing a get-together, as a host, it’s a big undertaking. As you are planning for a fun and festive evening, you may want to keep a few things in mind so your party goes safely and smoothly.
Avoid fire hazards. During a party, things can get chaotic, and things like burning candles or a smoldering cigarette could turn into a serious fire hazard. Make sure you use candle alternatives, have guests smoke outside, and if you plan on using your fireplace, have it professionally cleaned beforehand.
Avoid Glass. Most holiday parties offer up alcoholic beverages and most of the time, from glass containers. When you are shopping for your party supplies, opt for plastic cups and beer cans whenever possible. That way, if one drops, you do not have to worry about cleaning up broken glass or injured guests.
Drinking and driving. If you are hosting a party and serving alcohol, be prepared to designate a sober driver, call a taxi, or take away keys at the door. You can also invite your guests to stay the night if they intend on drinking. This is a thoughtful way to safeguard your loved ones from a possible ticket or worse.
Protect your valuables. Just to be on the safe side, put your valuables in a secure place. Protecting yourself from theft is a smart idea. It’s better to be safe than sorry when it comes to your things.
Be prepared. Be sure to keep a watchful eye on your party. If something goes wrong in your home, you will have to deal with it. Have a first aid kit available in case of an accident. Make sure you know who is in your house and have any emergency contacts on hand just in case.
