Earlier this week, we reported on a Consumer Reports survey that showed American families were less prepared than they believed for up to a two-week stay in their home following a disaster such as a blizzard, tornado or hurricane.

The magazine’s editors identified 16 items they believe should be in every home’s emergency kit. How many of these do you have in yours?

• Flashlight
• Nonprescription fever reducers and pain relievers
• Manual can opener
• Sanitation and person hygiene items
• First-aid kit including bandages, medical tape, antiseptics, etc.
• A two-week supply of any prescription drugs
• Extra batteries
• Thermometer
• Hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol
• Portable crank or battery-operated radio
• Two-week supply of nonperishable food
• Nonprescription diarrhea drugs
• Two-week supply of portable water for each family member
• Chemical cold packs
• Electrolyte drinks, such as Gatorade
• Surgical masks with a rating of N-95 or higher

The survey showed that American families averaged fewer than 10 of these 16 items.
